Enkalia is a divided region - mainly from its geography. On one side, a harsh desert landscape. On the other, a mountainous region without much room to fall. In the center, a capital with propaganda and peacekeepers running amuck; the government capitalizing on the aggression from either side.
The mountainous region of Enkalia is a dangerous one, but on the contrary many in this region have a strong sense of security. The reason this region is infamous lies in the way the mountains were formed. The region here is covered in folded mountains, so in order to get around, the residents have to be creative.
Villages are spread out around the side of mountains, and some even stem from accessible caves. To avoid starving and thirst, structures are formed from more permanent settlements to fish on ice water.
Similarly to the mountainous region, the desert region is also lacking in settlements and resources. However, most would agree the desert region is the safer of the two, because of a train that runs from the capital to the desert outskirts (even if there is a noticeable lack of stops).
The capital region is a dense populated city within the center of the country. Here, people are capable of thriving, and don’t have to worry as much about the dangers from the other regions. While this is the case on a surface level, this public perception was carefully manufactured by the government of Enkalia.
In order to ensure the capital stays peaceful, the government had to make propaganda. Additionally, throughout the center region, peacekeepers have been situated - also intended to help maintain this peaceful nature. Because the government resides within this region, the safety of the center specifically is a high priority. Without propaganda, outbreaks would be disturbing the peace and safety for government officials.
Enkalia is a region not many can thrive in, and as such, has never had a strong economy. In fact, the capital (which is the main source of economics and government of the country) was only founded in the late 19th century. Even with the harsh living conditions, the current day Enkalia is more stable than it has been, because war has slowed down and Rohandile is no longer occupying the country.
When the government portion of the capital was being created, there was a long discussion on what the new currency of the nation should be. Ultimately, after several days, they had decided on one thing: the main currency shouldn’t be something easily found within the country. About a week later, the decision for an aquatic based currency was decided, and the conch shell was chosen as a placeholder. Alas, no other compromise could be made, so the conch shell now stands as the currency Enkalia is known for, and is somewhat locked into the compromised decision.
Some decades later, a reformation of the currency had to be done, in order to avoid accessible fraud. The solution decided upon was to have custom made conch shells, which not only further solidified the currency, but also caused one of many moments where Enkalia’s economy struggled.
