Pak-Nesau

Overview

Pak-Nesau, formally known as the Confederation of the Kingdoms of Nesau, is a small island nation located on the northern end of the Ankernesian Archipelago. Its geography mainly consists of jungles and mountains, which encompasses the dozens of islands within the nation. Pak-Nesau is comprised of 13 confederate states, in total supporting a population of 1.32 million. Pak-Nesau now stands as outwardly stable but internally conflicted nation, known to most Aronians as a tourist destination and tax haven.

Government

Pak-Nesau is a confederate republic led by the leaders of each of its states, electing a new "lead representative" every 3 years via majority vote. Self-voting is not allowed, and election of a leader from the same state three times in a row is not permitted.

The system first came into effect under the colonization of Repsen throughout much of recent history. Following the dissolving of the Repsen owned Ankernesian Exchange Corporation in 1793 under mismanagement and revolt, Repsen forces moved to directly occupy the territories formally owned by the corporation, including Pak-Nesau. Despite efforts from previous AEC officials, Pak Nesau became an autonomous province of Repsen Ankernesia, as the Repseni government did not want to centralize power in the hands of incompetent AEC ministers. Under this new system, the dozens of small native Nesauian tribes were reorganized into the 7 kingdoms of Pak-Nesau to allow easier occupation and granted some amount of autonomy to the locals. Following full independence in 1961, the 7 kingdoms re-distributed into today's 13, and despite outside pressure during the conflicts between the SSK and UFSL, the government has stayed roughly the same until today.

With the confederate system, the Lead Representative gains the power to decide budget and appoint their cabinet. The remaining 12 members importantly control the military, which, along with the short term length of the lead representative, is meant to prevent any one person from centralizing power.

Geography

Pak-Nesau is not very diverse but still contains some of the most idealistic sights on Aron. Its 6 major islands of Iklinanu, Piniaki, Muchembai, Pieniki, Unishei, and Titran are primarily forest and mountains. These forests make up to 75% of the land area of Pak-nesau, with another 15% being mountains. The tallest of these is Mount Visihua at 4312 meters11.5 Gettacahr tall, which is now known to be a long dormant volcano, and due to its height is the base of the Nesauian Telescope Complex, one of the largest in Aron.
